About GCSA in St. Francis College (Brooklyn)

The Pope Physical Education Center, located at the Brooklyn St. Francis College campus will host GCSA and it's Girls' and Boys' Basketball Academies.

GCSA Summer Sports Academy is for a boys, girls, and teens ages 5-16. Athletes ages from 5-7 will be grouped in our Junior Varsity Division that will promote developmental skills in that select sport. Athletes aged 8 and older will be grouped in our Varsity Division focused on a more competitive atmosphere for sports growth. 

The Pope Physical Education Center 

The Pope Physical Education Center is located between Court and Clinton Streets, within St. Francis College. The arena has a capacity of 1,200 seats. It is home to the St. Francis Terriers basketball teams. The basketball court, Peter Aquilone Court, is named after Peter Aquilone, the son of former Athletic Director and St. Francis alumnus Edward Aquilone, '60. St. Francis College also has other world-class facilities that include, volleyball courts, a competition sized polo used for swimming,diving, and polo, and other intramural sports courts. 

We will also be using Pier 2 to run our Basketball Academy. The 5-acre pier features a variety of activities and attractions which include three outdoor basketball courts, and two covered basketball courts. A wide promenade wraps around the pier, offering magnificent views of lower Manhattan and the New York Harbor.

Sue Bird is a professional women's basketball player for the Seattle Storm. She currently plays point guard for the US Women's Olympic Team, and she is one of only nine women to receive an Olympic Gold Medal, a NCAA Championship and WNBA Championship.

Shawnelle Scott is a retired american born professional basketball player. Shawnelle played professionally for eight years before setting in sights on coaching. He has since become the head coach for the Millennium Brooklyn High School.

Ron Naclerio - Head Basketball Coach

Ron Naclerio

Ron Naclerio has coached boys varsity basketball at Benjamin N. Cardozo for 40 years, 35 as the head coach. He is the All-Time Leader with most wins in the PSAL with 748 wins to his name. He has helped more than 1,400 players get into college, and beyond. He is the only high school coach to receive a NABC Guardians of the Game award.

Bruno Cotumaccio

Bruno Cotumaccio is currently the Assistant Coach at NY powerhouse Benjamin Cardoza High School. He is also the Director of Baskebtall Operations and player development at Heat Elite AAU. He has 30 years of basketball coaching experience at many levels including, CYO, AAU, High School, and even international training work. Coach Cotumaccio’ ability to develop, motivate, connect and teach basketball players is second to none.
